Cheryl Tweedy

Hello, well i'm posting this song 'cause the other day i was singing it and realised that it appears what we are studying :P "Wishes and regrets". This song is called "Cheryl Tweedy" by Lily Allen =)

I wish I had one good reason why
I should stay
How'd I get myself
Into this place?

I wish had qualities like
Sympathy
Fidelity
Sobriety
Sincerity
Humility
Instead I got lunacy

I wish I could fit myself in my pocket
And tie myself to a rocket
And send myself to outer space
I wish I had a different face

I wish I had one good reason why
I should stay
How'd I get myself
Into this place?

I wish my life was a little less seedy
Why am I always so greedy?
Wish I looked just like Cheryl Tweedy
I know I never will
I wish my life was not so boring
Every weekend four to the flooring
Don't get me started on Monday morning
It would be overkill.

SPEECH

For those of you who asked for it, I've posted the guide we saw in class. See ya! Marga

DELIVERING A SPEECH
PRACTICAL GUIDELINE

In 7th Year, the special oral class consists of an individual presentation of a topic, in an informal chatty tone (as if you were talking with your classmates outside class). The speech is going to be prepared in advance and must be delivered in between 7 and 12 minutes. It should not be either read or said parrot fashion (i.e. by heart). The idea is that an open class discussion will take place after the given speech, so that we can all give our views on the topic. It’s your chance to bring the themes you are interested in to the classroom!

Choosing what to talk about:
Choosing the appropriate topic is one of the most important decisions to make. Basically, the subject matter of your speech should be something YOU are interested in, so as to catch the audience’s attention. You must choose a topic that either provokes some type of discussion like the debatable topics we frequently deal with in class (ex. gay marriage, legalization of drugs, capital punishment), or a description of a given situation (ex. the level of education in Argentina, what teenagers believe in, the growth of addictions, controversial current news, etc). Be careful not to choose a topic that would certainly not work (ex. the history of National rock, a biography of Tom Cruise, the results of the national football league, etc.).

Investigating:
You might need to do some research on the theme you are going to develop, but be careful to adapt the information you find to suit the purpose of your speech. I mean, don’t repeat information you find on the web or in books nonsensically.

Drafting:
I believe it’s essential to make some notes at home so as to organize your ideas and to feel surer of what you are going to talk about. Knowing beforehand the contents and organization of your speech will make you feel confident and relaxed, which is exactly the attitude you should have. It is evident that the structure you are going to use is similar to essay writing, but in an informal register and a more flexible tone.

Delivering your speech:
A specific date is going to be appointed to each of you, which should be respected, unless you have a very good excuse! A week before you must inform the teacher what you are planning to talk about and show her your material, without exception (you may wish to do so via e-mail). You must prepare a handout including a short summary of your speech to hand in to your classmates at the end of your presentation. The heading must be: 7TH YEAR SPEECH Name: … Date: …Title:…
There are some important points you should take into account to make your presentation successful. The tone of voice must be high and clear, your body posture must indicate willingness and you must remember to keep the audience motivated by your chat. All your classmates will be listening to you attentively and will be eager to give their views on the theme because, after all, they are all going to be in the same situation sooner or later and they know it’s better for everybody to have a warm, friendly, supportive atmosphere in the class.

That’s all folks! Now it’s time to enjoy and shine!
